Price and what's included

North Carolina LLC formation: $199 our fee + $128 North Carolina state filing fee = $327 due today. The first year of registered agent service is included; it renews at $99/year after 12 months.

EIN (federal tax ID) application: $99. The IRS charges no fee for an EIN. Founders with no SSN or ITIN add $99 for international processing.

State fees are shown separately from our fee. We collect them with your order and pay them to the state at cost when we file.

Standard North Carolina processing for a new LLC takes 2–9 business days after we file. If you want it sooner, checkout offers the state's optional expedited processing (24 hours) for $100, a fee paid to the state.

State processing times are set by the state and can change.

Staying compliant in North Carolina

The report is due April 15 each year, and the filing window opens January 1. The first-year rule matters: your initial report is due April 15 of the year after the year of organization. An LLC organized anytime in 2026, whether January or December, files its first report by April 15, 2027, and owes nothing in 2026 itself. After that, the report is due every April 15 regardless of whether the company is actively doing business. Filing is governed by N.C. Gen. Stat. § 57D-2-24.

Separate from the report, the LLC must continuously maintain a registered agent and registered office at a physical North Carolina street address under Chapter 55D. A vacant agent seat is itself grounds for administrative action. Our registered agent service covers the seat year-round and sends April 15 reminders ahead of each cycle, which is how the $200 report gets filed on time instead of becoming a dissolution notice.

Policies

Registered agent service renews automatically for another year on each renewal date, unless you turn off auto-renewal or cancel in your online account, or give written notice at least 30 days before the renewal date. Renewal reminders go out about 60 days ahead.

You can cancel at any time from your online account or by contacting support. Cancelling does not by itself remove us as registered agent on the state record; a change of registered agent or resignation filing does that.

Anything already filed with the government is not refundable. Registered agent fees are not refundable once we or our partner have been appointed with the state. State fees are not refundable once paid to the state.

How do I get an EIN for my North Carolina LLC?

Apply directly on IRS.gov — it's free and takes about 10 minutes. You'll receive your EIN immediately after completing the online application. Never pay a third party for an EIN. Our EIN application help is a separately-priced add-on. Going direct via IRS.gov is also free and takes about ten minutes.

Do I need an operating agreement for my North Carolina LLC?

North Carolina doesn't require you to file an operating agreement with the state, but you absolutely should have one. Banks require it to open a business account. Courts rely on it in disputes. Without one, North Carolina's default LLC rules apply — which may not match your intentions. Our operating agreement template is a paid optional add-on, separately priced from formation.

Is a registered agent included?

Yes. Your first year of North Carolina registered agent service is included with the formation. After 12 months it renews automatically at $99/year unless you turn off auto-renewal or cancel in your online account.

How much does it cost to form an LLC in North Carolina with you?

$199 our fee + $128 North Carolina state filing fee = $327 due today.
